Gym Review: MJ Five Points Muay Thai Legend, Chalong, Phuket
I recently had the opportunity to train at MJ Five Points Muay Thai Legend, located just off the iconic Soi Ta’ied in Chalong, Phuket. The gym, which has been open since 2024, is led by Master Judd, a globally respected Muay Thai trainer. Master Judd was directly responsible for the rise of several Muay Thai legends such as Buakaw and Nam Sak Noi, having guided them from early development to world champion status, along with numerous other world champions. Master Judd is widely regarded as one of the best coaches in Thailand.
Class Schedule
MJ Five Points offers two training sessions daily, each lasting over two hours:
- Morning: 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM
- Evening: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Classes are held Monday through Saturday.
Training is intense, and students can continue beyond the scheduled hours if they wish. During my session, several active fighters from Bangkok’s Rajadamnern Stadium were also training.
Class Format
The structure of the class is deeply rooted in traditional Muay Thai. Each session typically includes:
- Self-guided stretching and warm-up
- Footwork and mobility drills
- Shadow boxing
- Bag work with instructor supervision
- Pad rounds
- Supervised sparring
- Technical drilling
- Clinch sparring
- Cool down
During my visit, there were 9 students: 3 foreigners and 6 Thai fighters, supported by 3 instructors, offering a strong 3:1 student-to-teacher ratio.
Instruction and Atmosphere
Master Judd leads the instruction with exceptional energy and dedication. He is supported by Master Noom and Kru P, a former Lumpini Champion, forming a top-tier coaching team alongside the best in Thailand. The atmosphere at the gym is intimate, focused, and respectful — this is a traditional Muay Thai family gym.
Despite the warm and welcoming environment, training is taken very seriously. Master Judd not only instructs students but also guides his fellow coaches, ensuring consistent, high-level teaching throughout. The gym itself is very clean, and the Thai fighters training there are elite-level athletes regularly competing at Rajadamnern Stadium.
This gym is a far cry from some of the “tourist” Muay Thai gyms found in Phuket. The owner actively sponsors young Thai fighters, who live and train full-time at the gym, creating a deeply authentic environment that prioritizes the development of fighters and discipline.
Who is this gym for?
This gym is ideal for:
- Fighters looking for Bangkok-level training in the relaxed setting of Phuket
- Athletes aiming to compete professionally in Phuket and Bangkok
- Practitioners who want authentic Muay Thai without the distractions of a commercial or tourist-focused gym
- Beginners who value high-level coaching within a supportive, traditional environment
- Though the gym is still growing, it already shows the potential to become a true Muay Thai powerhouse.
Who might it not suit?
- If you’re looking for a luxury fitness retreat with spa services, meal plans, or resort-style amenities, this won’t be the right fit. MJ Five Points is all about serious training, not pampering.
Pricing
The pricing structure is reasonable, especially given the quality of coaching:
1-hour beginner session: 300 THB
Standard 2-hour class: 400 THB
1 class per day for 1 week 2,000 THB
2 classes per day for 1 week 3,500 THB
1 class per day for 1 month: 6,500 THB
2 classes per day for 1 month: 11,000 THB
For a 1-hour private class, the price is 700 THB, and for a 1-hour private class with Master Judd the price is 1500 THB
This represents good value for training of this level, these are not regional Thai pad holders, it’s a team consisting of some of the best trainers in Thailand. I am also a big fan of the 300 THB 1-hour class, to test the gym, or for those who have less time for training Muay Thai.
I would strongly recommend everyone coming to Phuket to take a one-hour private session with Master Judd, regardless of which gym they train.
Overall
MJ Five Points Muay Thai Legend represents everything that inspired me to launch FightLink: world-class coaching, a family-oriented gym culture, and a true traditional Thai training experience, just lacking the marketing budget of the big tourist gyms.
This gym stands out in a region sometimes criticized for tourist-oriented training. It brings Bangkok-level intensity and professionalism to Phuket’s paradise setting, and while it’s still under the radar, it won’t stay that way for long.
Highly recommended for anyone serious about Muay Thai — whether you’re a seasoned fighter or an inspired beginner. This is world-class Bangkok-level training, with Bangkok-level fighters in Phuket.

Quality of Facility (1-10 scale)
• 7 out of 10, it has everything you need, but this is not the place for you if you are searching for a huge tourist gym. They also have onsite accommodation which is a massive plus.
Your 2 cents
World-class, authentic Thai training in Phuket, comfortably one of the top gyms in the Chalong area.
